Admittedly, it’s better to have the worst house on a nice street, than a nice house on the worst street. But if yours sticks out like a sore thumb for all the wrong reasons, it can be a little embarrassing. Our homes are likely the biggest purchases we’ll ever make in our lives, and so it’s always worth taking pride in them and ensuring they’re something we’re happy and grateful to return to each day. As well as making space look nice on the inside, there’s plenty you can do to give it curb appeal from the outside too. Here are some ideas!
Change the colour or texture
Lots of houses, particularly older ones aren’t the prettiest in colour. Yours might be roomy and gorgeous inside, but if it was built from dull coloured bricks, has concrete rendering or ugly grey pebble dashing on the outside it’s never going to look its best. Thankfully, there are some fairly easy ways you can change this completely. Have a professional painting company come out and paint your house, or have it rendered first to change the texture and colour. It can completely transform and modernise even the ugliest looking abode!
Upgrade the windows and doors
As well as of course being practical, your windows and doors have a huge impact on the way your home looks from the outside. Ugly or old fashioned styles can be replaced with windows and doors that look much nicer- as well as funcion better from an energy efficiency and security point of view.
Renovate the garden
A clean and tidy garden shows that you take pride in where you live, and keeping it maintained will make sure your house doesn’t look like the scruffiest on the street. Rake up leaves, prune back shrubs and keep the lawn short. If you really don’t have the time or inclination to work on your yard regularly, have a landscaping company come out and replace it with something low maintenance. Paving and pea gravel can still look nice, a few slow growing shrubs planted around will give it life without lots of work to keep them at their best.
Paint garage doors and fences
Faded fences and garage doors give the impression of a home that’s not particularly well loved. Invest in some wood and metal paint and make it your project for the weekend. Just this step alone can make a huge difference. If your front door is an old wooden style and you don’t want to replace it, sand it down and give it a coat of paint and some new hardware. A knocker and some new numbers cost next to nothing, but give the impression of a brand new door.
The front of your home is the first thing people see, and it’s what you return to each day after work. Putting some effort in and making it look nice can make a good impression and can mean you’re far more satisfied with your home.
